Thumbs Up: http://popurls.com – good golly, this is a fantastically fast way to see lots of the internet at once. Golly.
AGAIN with the White Denim!

Josh Block of White Denim
Thumbs Up: Austin’s buzzworthy trio and their sweet write up in the current Rolling Stone. I’ve been listening to their Let’s Talk About It EP quite a bit over the past few months and I highly recommend checking it out! Come see ‘em in Austin at Emo’s on 3/11 for a big pre-SXSW blowout. Whoooooop!
Bonus Thumbs Up: Check out the pair of FREE White Denim tracks at the super cool RCRD LBL site. Y’all won’t regret it!

2nd grade Queso
Thumbs Up: Miles Davis box set of the complete On The Corner sessions. Geez. The case is already closed…Miles is my favorite all-around musician ever, and…I’m planning on getting a tattoo of him this year as evidence. The 2nd grader in me would agree, I’m sure.
We Have Reached An Official Verdict, No One Gives A Shit
January 23, 2008
Thumbs Up: Who doesn’t love tongue and ass burning hot pepper sauce? C’mon! I’ve been buying Dave’s nuclear strength hot sauce for years, but gettin’ this gift box from my folks was super-terrific. I encourage y’all to add a bit of spice to your eggs, meat and tortilla chips. Dave’s will do you good.
Bonus Thumbs Up: Best band ever, the Locust, have an exciting video for their brilliant tune “We Have Reached An Official Verdict, No One Gives A Shit.” Check it!!!! Best…band…ever.
My New Erection!

The Locust’s setlist from 1/19/08 at White Rabbit, San Antonio
Thumbs Up: If someone can show me a better live band than the Locust, I’d sure be interested to see them. After 7 or so Locust gigs, however, I’m doubtful that such a band exists. Geeeeeeez! Their set this past Saturday in San Antonio was absolutely ridiculous. The setlist above is somewhat inaccurate, as they skipped the final two songs listed.
These geniuses were subjected to playing with some freaking awful acts, a sad testimony to the world of progressive musical thoughts and new sonic territory. As usual, the Locust rose to the challenge – absolutely destroying those present with their unique onslaught of sound and fury. I’d like to see them in a cage match with Racebannon and Pig Destroyer, the other bands closest to my heart. Amen.
If you don’t know the Locust, you don’t know shit.
FIGHT!
January 22, 2008

Thumbs Up: My interesting friend Eugene, whom I first got to know as a fan of his band Oxbow. Sure, he likes to strip to his undies and scare the living shit out of audiences, but, Mr. Robinson is also a very intelligent and well intentioned citizen of Earth. His book, Fight, promises to be engaging, but I should also recommend Oxbow’s The Narcotic Story. Good stuff. Ironically, it was produced by the same guy that did the (boring) last Shins’ record.
Bass-tacular!
January 20, 2008

Andrew Duplantis and the Son Volt!
Thumbs Up: My incredibly modest friend (whom has graced artists as varied as Tia Carrera, Meat Puppets, Bob Mould, Alejandro Escovedo and Jon Dee Graham with his immaculate bass playing) was kind enough to hook me up with a pass to see his current band play Chicago’s House of Blues this past Thursday. Son Volt were nearly pitch perfect, delivering American rock and storytelling in pristine fashion. Andrew also fronts an impressive band of his own, the Unfaithfuls.
The Locust! San Antonio! January 19, 2008! White Rabbit!
January 13, 2008
The Locust at the White Rabbit (San Antonio) Saturday, January 19, 2008!
Thumbs Up: The best show I saw in all of 2007, and quite frankly – all my life, was the Locust at Emo’s inside stage on their New Erections tour. Yeah…I’ve seen U2. I’ve also seen the Pixies, Stryper, Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, WEEN, Fantomas, Metallica, and nearly every touring band of the last ten years. WHO comes CLOSE to the Locust???? Nobody. Which is why you should join me at the White Rabbit next Saturday for the best live band on earth.
