Thumbs Up: Austin’s famous Alamo Drafthouse. This independently owned and operated movie house has flourished - expanding into multiple locations throughout the city… I’ve always appreciated the Drafthouse’s attention to detail, creative programming, Rolling Roadshow , Original Trailers and general atmosphere. You’ve gotta love a place that offers alcohol and threatens to throw out idiots who insist on talking during the movie. Alamo South Lamar is almost the only place I will go to see movies, but I’m looking forward to trying out the brand new Alamo location on 6th Street. Nov 1 is the big opening for this Alamo, replacing the original digs on Colorado.

Thumbs Up: The still brilliant WEEN and their new record, La Cucaracha. I saw these guys two nights in a row this past August and was amazed - as usual. Dismiss them for their playfulness if you will, but WEEN are truly one of the best bands of the past two decades.
